"Big Brother" was a programme which started to appear on British television (Channel 4) in 2000. "Nasty Nick" was Nick Bateman (b. 1947), who courted unpopularity by manipulating the other participants. In August 2000 there was an outbreak of swine fever in Suffolk and Norfolk
