Description

The volume includes a reproduction of the 24 maps created 2015-17 and includes a text on each of the themes. The maps represent a range of concepts: architecture, games, fate, memories, body, flora, mythical animals, religion, utopia, social science, tools, garments, architecture, narratives, art and everyday life, human emotions, diseases and medicine, food, animals, gods, travellers, circulation of revolution, natural science, professions, social relationships.

Notes

Qui Zhije was commissioned by the Written Art Collection to create "24 World maps, an encyclopeadia consisting of maps while at the same time presenting fields of knowledge that were selected, pictorially developed, and finally singlehandedly applied by the artist himself onto Chinese papers with ink and pigments in the manner of a calligrapher. The 24 works... persue key subjects that have preoccupied the human mind not only... utopias primarily, then religions, voyagers, socoial relations, emotions, games, everyday life, animals, gods and other subjcet matter"--Foreword.
Published in conjunction with "Qiu Zhijie: Mappa Mundi" exhibition, organised by UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, China, 9th January 2019 - 5th May 2019.
