The zinc pJate is equal in breadth to nearly one half of the breadth of the copper plate ; it has two lugs, which project beyond the parts cut away from the fold in the copper plate; the opposite corners to the lugs in the zinc plate are cut off and the zinc plate is held between the two halves of the copper plate by two corners of the latter, being turned in under the zinc plate; the two other corners of the copper plate have each a hole pierced therein ; a hole is also made in the projecting zinc lugs, and metal rings being passed through the holes in the zinc lugs and copper corners unite every pair of plates. SPECIFICATION in pursuance of the conditions of the Letters Patent, filed ^ by the said Charles Hen wood in the Great Seal Patent Office on the 3rd June 1858. TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, I, Charles Henwood, of the City of Oxford, Engineer, send greeting. WHEREAS Her most Excellent Majesty Queen Victoria, by Her Letters ^ Patent, bearing date the Third day of December, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty-seven, in the twenty-first year of Her reign, did, for Herself, Her heirs and successors, give and grant unto me, the said Charles Henwood, Her special licence, that I, the said Charles Henwood, my executors, administrators, and assigns, or such others as I, the ^ said Charles Henwood, my executors, administrators, and assigns, should at any time agree with, and no others, from time to time and at all times there¬ after during the term therein expressed, should and lawfully might make, use, exercise, and vefhd, within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Channel Islands, and Isle of Man, an Invention for “An Improved ^ Arrangement op Galvanic Battery suitable for Medical Purposes,” upon the condition (amongst others) that I, the said Charles Henwood, my executors or administrators, by an instrument in writing under my, or their, or one of their hands and seals, should particularly describe and ascertain the nature of the said Invention, and in what manner the same was to be performed, and 30 cause the same to be filed in the Great Seal Patent Office within six calendar months next and immediately after the date of the said Letters Patent.
