About this work

Description

Respiratory tract and oesophagus from a juvenile dog, viewed from the front if it were in the body. This animal suffered from a congenital condition called "persistent right aortic arch", where a vestigial vessel wraps around the oesophagus causing obstruction and swelling. Visible structures include the larynx, trachea, lungs, heart, oesophagus, common carotid artery and external jugular vein (filled with red plastic). This specimen measures 22 cm in length.
