About this work

Description

In 2008, Hannah Jones, aged 13, refused to have a life-saving heart transplant. Since she survived leukaemia aged 4, Hannah's heart has been battling cardiomyopathy. Her story made the headlines and has fuelled heated debates in which the family have been criticised for not forcing Hannah to go through with the surgery. The programme shows extracts from Hannah's personal video diary in which she speaks candidly about her feelings. We also see Hannah enjoy a family holiday. However, a visit to Hannah's consultant shortly before her 14th birthday gives Hannah and her family the devastating news that her heart has entered a phase of severe decline and she won't live for long without a transplant. After her birthday Hannah changes her mind and has a heart transplant which is hugely successful and should extend her life expectancy enormously.
