    impossible. The time is approaching when another nurse will be required. Advice is given to mothers by the nurse on nursing methods when sickness occurs in the house. Midwives. The Council has, for a number of years, wished to establish in the district a midwife to attend to necessitous persons. Last year a scheme was submitted to the Welsh Board of Health. After some negotiation this was modified and now an arrange- ment exists between the Council and the local Nursing Association whereby the latter provides a midwife and the Council contribute to her salary. This scheme has been an unqualified success. The midwife has, in the last year, attended at over 70 confinements. There are 8 midwives practising in the district. Chemical Work. Chemical examination under the Foods and Drugs Acts is administered by the County Council. I am indebted to Mr. J.
