When the bottle has been filled the passage through the tube or opening is closed by a valve or otherwise.. When the bottle is to be filled the inner cylinder is pressed up to the closed end of the outer cylinder. The end of the tube which opens into the bottom of the bottle is inserted into the fluid with which the bottle is 5 to be filled, the bottom is then drawn away from the top and the bottle fills with fluid. Suitable provision is made for retaining the two cylinders from entirely separating when the bottle is in use, and yet for allowing the two parts to be separated for cleaning; or I take a cup or glass cylinder and apply a piston with a nipple for attaching a tube Hh thereto, to be made of any elastic material capable of being pressed to the bottom of said cylinder or bottle, thus forming a complete pneumatic apparatus, by which any partial vacuum may be capable of sucking up, the fluid from beneath the said piston, which I term the pneumatic feeding apparatus or bottle for infants or invalids* 15 LONDON: Printed by George Edward Eyre and William Spottiswoode, Printers to the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty. 1868,
