![affected. The skin may l>e darker in eolor and tlie liair tails out. Tlie teeth may become loose, owing to wasting of the alve(jlar processes. The move- ments (jf the muscles are rarely affected, though in Saclis' patient there were tonic and clonic contractures of the temjioral and masseter muscles. The nature of the disease is still doubtful. In the autopsy in Iloman's case, which came on I'apidly and can scarcely be regarded as a typical illustration, a tumor was found pressing upon the Gasserian ganglion and the lifth nerve. In Mendel's case there was an interstitial neuritis in all the branches of the trigeminus from its origin to the periphery, most advanced in the superior maxillary branch. Tiie disease is probably due to involvement of the tro])hic fibres of the fifth nerve. The prognosis is unfavorable, as the affection is progressive. The cases of facial asymmetry in children associated nith congenital wry-neck nuist not be confounded with progressive facial hemiatrophy.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b20413920_001_0889.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
