The following is an interim description which may change when detailed cataloguing takes place in future:
Papers re Johnson's work with 3rd Mobile Neurosurgical Unit, Burma, including clinical case notes, mainly 1942-1943; correspondence and notes re neurosurgical societies and conferences, 1950s-1970s; lecture notes and sketches, 1930s-1950s; case-notes; reprints; neurosurgical memorabilia including glass lantern slides, mounted x-rays, photographs and drawings (the latter by Dorothy Davison); some material relating to Manchester hospitals with which Johnson was associated.

Biographical note
Educated at Cambridge University, Johnson qualified in medicine in 1938, and worked at St Bartholomew's Hospital 1938-1940, when he became house surgeon and clinical assistance to Sir Geoffrey Jefferson at Manchester Royal Infirmary. He was awarded the FRCS in 1940. From 1942-1946 he served in the RAMC with the 3rd Mobile Neurosurgical Unit, Burma, attaining the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and receiving the OBE in 1946. After the war he took up an appointment in neurosurgery at the University of Manchester, eventually becoming Director of the Department of Neurosurgery until his retirement in 1977.
