    The Asylum is capable of accommodating 510 patients, and on this day there are 49o on the hooks of the establishment. All are in their usual general state of good health. The weekly charge for the maintenance of patients belonging to Unions or Townships within the County has been 7s. 7d. throughout the year; that for the maintenance of patients belong¬ ing to Unions or Townships not within the County 14s. In conformity with the resolution passed at the Annual General Session, held on the 15th of March last, that the Asylum at Prestwich be enlarged so as to afford accommodation for 400 additional patients, the Visitors have directed their attention to the best and most economical mode of carrying out the directions of the Court, for the sum of T13,230, granted for that purpose. The Committee have decided on the following scheme :—To convert certain rooms in the present buildings (now used as bed-rooms for female patients), into apartments for a second assistant medical officer, and an assistant matron or chief female attendant, by which change, and a few minor altera¬ tions in the existing Asylum, accommodation for 40 patients will be sacrificed ; and to erect two large buildings to be connected by corridors with the present establishment, and a new laundry in lieu of the one now in use, which is to be converted into a dining-room for the female patients, scullery, store-rooms, and apartments for the attendants, by wliich accommodation will be obtained for 460 additional patients ; and lastly, as a con-
