    air life. Exercise should be taken to the point of fatigue ; the bowels should be kept thoroughly well open ; plain food and no alcohol ordered. Warm baths should be prohibited, and the patient should be made to take them cold, followed by a brisk rubbing. It is well to remember that increased sexual desire, with the practice of onanism, is very fre- quently associated with early tabes and insanity. In the latter condition this habit is often the first symptom noted, and it may be here pointed out that masturbation is not a cause of insanity, but is rather a symptom.
