About this work

Description

Transmission electron micrograph showing a region of corneoscleral ulcer where the epithelium has been replaced by inflammatory phagocytic cells with lysosomes, some fusing with phagosomes and contents (to the left of the field). The basal lamina is absent, replaced by accumulation of degenerative cell debris. At this point the Bowman's layer to the right of the field appears normal. The field is approximately 7.8microns across.
