Description

Photomacrograph of a single ginkgo leaf from the Maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba). The Ginkgo tree is native to parts of Asia but is now also grown in parts of Europe and North America. These fan-shaped leaves have been used in preparations taken to improve memory disorders such as Dementia and Alzheimer's. The herb has also been used to treat a variety of other conditions including eye disorders (such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration), asthma, bronchitis and depression. Ginkgo appears to improve blood circulation. Ginkgo leaf extract is also used in cosmetics while ginkgo seeds are an edible delicacy in some parts of Asia. Width of image is 5 cm.
