About this work
Description
The first item on the programme is about how psychology can be used to control crowds. Inspector Bob Hughes from the Metropolitan Police's Public Order Unit describes how riot police are trained to prevent and deal with rowdy and violent behaviour. The second item is about Ronald David Laing (1927-1989), one of the most famous psychiatrists of the twentieth century. R.D. Laing's papers are now being catalogued at Glasgow University library and Dr. Raj Persaud meets Ian Carthy who is working on some of Laing's unpublished articles. We also hear from Dr. Leon Redler who was a long term colleague of Laing's. The last item on the programme is about the Priory Hospital near Southampton and how it treats alcohol abuse.
