Photograph of a woodcut illustration from Bartisch, George: Ophthalmodouleia, 1583. The illustration depicts a man with pterygium symptoms, a triangular or wedge-shaped growth of conjunctival tissue which has grown over the surface of the cornea, with captions above and below in German.
