Shews the mode which I almost constantly pursue of reducing recent dislo- cations of the os humeri, by placing the heel in the axilla, and by extending the arm either from above the elbow or from the wrist. Fig. 2. Mode of reduction by the pulley; shewing the manner in which the scapula is fixed by a bandage which receives the arm, and the pulleys applied above the elbow ; as well as the direction in which extension is to be made in dislo- cation in the axilla. If the dislocation be forwards under the clavicle, the arm must be somewhat lowered to avoid the coracoid process. Fig. 3. Shews the mode of reducing the dislocation downwards, by the knee in the axilla.
