About this work

Description

Simpson and his friends drank liquid chloroform in this experiment, rather than inhaling the vapour. The shattered drinking-glass used by one of the experimenters lies near him. Simpson described the experience to the Medico-Chirurgical Society of Edinburgh in 1847
