The following table shows the birth rates for the past ten years, calculated on the Registrar- General’s estimate of the population. Of these noti- fications 579 were made by doctors, 564 by mid- wives and 5 b}^ other persons. (b) Infantile Mortality. vSeventy-three infants died in Bournemouth during their first year of life. Of these deaths 11 were transferred to other dis- tricts. Two infant deaths occurring in other areas were transferred to Bournemouth, the number of infant deaths referred by the Registrar-General to Bournemouth being therefore 64, making an Infantile Mortality of 57.65. Of the 64 infant deaths, 12 were certified as due to premature birth and 13 to congential malforma- tions. No child under twelve months died from any notifiable infectious disease.
