    DR. I. I. RABI Renowned U.S. physicist Dr. I. I. Rabi received a Ph.D. degree from Columbia in 1937. In that year, he invented the atomic and molecular beam mag netic resonance method for observing spectra in the radio-frequency range. Spectroscopic observations thus made possible have yielded much detailed information about the structure and the mechanical and magnetic properties of atoms and molecules. For this work, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1944. Dr. Rabi served on various government scientific committees including the General Advisory Committee of the U.S. Atomic Energy Com mission. As a U.S. representative to UNESCO, he was instrumental in arranging the 1955 Geneva Conference on peaceful uses of atomic energy. In 1962, he was appointed to the General Advisory Committee for the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. Dr. Rabi has been a Trustee of The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai School of Medicine for many years.
