About this work

Description

This set of small posters was produced in the early 1960s in conjunction with a film of the same name. It demonstrates a surgical skill which was required by China's rapidly increasing industrialisation: expertise in the reattachment of severed limbs. At the time, China's medical community was in the early stages of undertaking such reattachments and this is an early propaganda effort mostly examining one particular case. The photographs show stills from various stages of the film, from the initial assessment through operative procedures to post-operative care. Each photograph is accompanied by descriptive text in Chinese
