The main object of this work is to draw par- ticular attention to the early symptoms of stone in the bladder, with a view to its safe and more easy treatment; and to certain conditions which predispose to the formation of stone, with a view to preventive treatment. The first portion of the subject I have allowed to remain in the form of lectm-es, which were delivered this summer at St. Peter's Hospital. In placing these lectures before the second portion of the work—the preventive treatment —I have shown perhaps a smgical bias.
