The Sewage Disposal Works are sited at Abbey lane and consists of the following:- Detritus and sedimentation tanks, rotary percolating filters, humus tanks, stoim water overflows and sludge lagoons. No complaints of pollution wore roooivod, but samplos of sowago offluont and water from Running Waters Brook wore not of a high standard. 4. Closet Accommodation. Tho majority of tho premises in tho town have water carriage systems, but thirty-nino houses with no sower available arc drainod to cesspools. Ton cottages {isolated cottages and agricultural dwellings) havo only pail closots. 5. Public Cleansing. Tho collection and disposal of houso rofusc has boon carried out by a privato contractor with a properly covorod rofuso collecting vehiolo. A weekly collection is in operation and tho refuso is disposed of by controlled tipping at a site near Bedford Road Hill. 6. Salvage. During tho yoar 13 tons 18 cwts. of waste papor was oolloctod and sold which realised tho sum of £79. 13. 0. Only waste papor from business premises noar tho town contro was collected as it is found uneconomical to colloct from housos and premisos throughout tho whole district. 7.
