About this work

Description

Diploma of Doctor of Philosophy and Medicine at Padua University: in Latin. The verso of the first leaf shows a device-a nude man climbing a flowering tree-within historiated borders in colour. The recto of the second leaf has similar borders; the text is in black and gold. The remainder of the text is within gold rules. The recto of the last leaf contains a half-length pencil sketch of Allegri in his 23rd year. A note by a 19th cent. hand, also in pencil, adds 'nato adi iii 1716'. The diploma is signed by Sanctes Veronesi, Patriarch of Venice [1684-1767], by the notary Joseph Villanova, and by Hieronymus Calvi, Syndicus, Venetian College of Physicians. Below is the name of the scribe, Salius Modelli. On the verso of the last leaf is an endorsement dated 1751 by the sopra Proveditori alla Sanità, Antonio Michiel, Pietro Capello, Lorenzo Rezzonico, Giuseppe Antonio Gariboldi, and by Petrus Andreas Valaelli, Prior of the Collegium Medico-Physicum of Venice. Produced in Padua.
