Description

Medication chart: Sweating, emesis and purgation. From a manuscript copy of Shanghan diandian jin shu (The Gold-dust Book of Cold Damage) dated '1st year of the Zhengyuan reign period of the Yuan dynasty' (1341), section entitled Shanghan diandian jin yongyao muji (Cold Damage Gold-Dust Repertory of Medication).

The text states:

Exterior releasing therapy for cold damage conditions, sweating treatment method. Common prescriptions are: Cassia twig decoction (guizhi tang), ephedra decoction (mahuang tang), Dual Dispersal powder (shuang jie san), cohosh (shengma, cimicifuga) decoction, Minor Bupleurum decoction (xiao chaihu tang) , etc.

Emesis treatment method for cold damage and interior excess conditions. Common prescriptions are: Melon stalk powder (guadi san), Cape jasmine bean decoction (zhichi tang), Three Immortals pills (san xian wan), etc.

Purgation treatment method for cold damage and interior excess conditions. Common prescriptions are: Minor Qi Supporting Decoction (xiao cheng qi tang), Major Qi Supporting Decoction (da cheng qi tang), Vessel and Vehicle pills (zhou che wan), etc.
