    I should be glad to see him placed in some position in which his prac¬ tical ability might find a suitable field for exercise. From REGINALD SOUTHEY, M.D. Oxon., E.R.C.P., Assistant-Physician to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, &c. Dr. Duckworth is highly qualified for holding the office of Assistant- Physician to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. His attainments and the distinguished honours which he obtained at the University of Edinburgh speak more strongly in his favour than any words of mine can. Dr. Duckworth, however, is not only endowed with talents of the very highest order; he has the reputation of possessing as great a faculty for teaching others as he has for acquiring knowledge himself. His clear intelligence and persevering industry have recommended him to various responsible positions; he has already been appointed Medical Tutor at the School of the Hospital with which he is now seeking more closely to ally himself. I have great pleasure in bearing my testimony to his many and valu¬ able qualities, for I am convinced that he would form an important addition to the staff of any Hospital. Reginald Southey. Perhaps the energy he has already shown in the performance of whatever duties have devolved on him furnishes the best proof that he is not likely to neglect in any way the larger opportunities which are afforded by the responsible office to which he aspires.
