Lung: Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) with HIV

Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) This is a high power view of P. carinii obtained by bronchoalveolar lavage (a washing out of the organ). This cluster of organisms with black-staining walls was found in the lavage of a patient with HIV/AIDS and lung disease. The individual pneumocysts are clearly seen. Grocott silver stain.
