A world of pain : Meera Syal on self harm.

Meera Syal takes an in depth look at self harm. Drawing on her own experiences of self harm and speaking with others who have experience of self harm, Syal provides an intimate and informative view of the problem. One of the major problems in teenage self harm seems to be the pressure put onto children by academic expectations. There are also higher numbers of self harmers among those with ambiguous sexuality, with unstable home lives and among young British Asian women. Syal is particularly interested in the latter group and talks to various women in this situation. We hear about how difficult it is for medical services to continue to treat repeat offenders without becoming jaded.
