About this work
Two letters written by 10 year old invalid Maria Louisa Napier Bruce to her elder sister Jane, in which she mentions treatment by leeches. These are followed by a memorial note written by her father after her death in June 1838. The file also includes letters written by Emma de Koetteritz to her great niece Jane Alexander discussing family matters and health problems.
Purchased from J.L.M. Gulley, Upper Norwood, LONDON
Emma and Maria Louisa Napier Bruce were the daughters of Admiral Sir Henry William Bruce. Maria Louisa lived from 1827-1838. Emma de Koetteritz (née Rowbottom) , wife of Bernard Ernest Jule de Koetteritz, was married to Sir Stewart Bruce from 1838 until his death in 1841. Jane Alexander (née Bruce) was the grandaughter of Sir Stewart's brother, Henry Hervey Aston Bruce, making William Henry Bruce her uncle and Maria Louisa and Emma her cousins.
