Description

Three letters by Francis Galton to family members:

  • Letter to Emma Galton, dated 19 October 1871. The letter concerns an iron plate attached to the wall of an outbuilding at Erasmus Darwin's old residence in Full St, Derby. Enclosed are the particulars of the plate, which commemorate Darwin's creation of a stream with an auger, as documented in "Dr Darwin's account of an artificial spring of water", Philosophical Transactions, 1785.
  • Letter to Emma Galton, dated 26 April 1882. The letter contains an account of the funeral service for Charles Darwin.
  • Letter to Edward Galton Wheler-Galton, dated 14 November 1910, regarding the Royal Society Gold Medal.
