    DEDICATORY NOTICE. It was my intention, and as expressive of my ad- miration of the truly philosophical spirit which per- vades the whole of their writings, to have dedicated the following pages jointly to Sin B. C. BRODIE, Baut., F.R.S., D.C.L., Ac, AND TO Sir henry HOLLAND, Bart., M.D., F.R.S., D.C.L.,&c., who, as the respective authors of Psychological In- quiries, and of Chapters on Mental Physiology, have given an impetus to the study of physiological psy- chology ; and who, for a long series of years, have been alike eminent and distinguished in the highest walks of professional life. But, alas ! before the last sheets had passed through the press, Sir B. C.
