Description
Interior of a factory building with high windows. A man, side on to the camera, operating a large lathe or milling machine marked "Scriven and Holdsworth, Leeds". The Leeds firm of Woodhead, Scriven and Holdsworth became Scriven and Holdsworth, which was dissolved in 1874, and subsequently traded as Scriven and Co. During the 1882 visit to Yorkshire of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the information for visitors about Scriven and Co. included "They also make special machinery for boring and rifling the largest and heaviest class of modern ordnance, and had just supplied a second set of plant of the newest design for the Chinese government."
