    great satisfaction of, not only our own family, but those of our neighbor- hood, it was perfectly cured. After this I was called to attend in many cases of disease. The knowledge of medicine I then had being very lim- ited, notwithstanding I perlbrnied cures that had baffled the skill of some of the most skilful Physicians, by the use of herbs and riots, without calomel, the great Galia and Sampson of medicine, (as the cdebrated Dr. Rush was pleased to call it.) From what experience I then lad concern- ing the medical use of herbs, I was convinced that Nature's vide garden produced medicine sufficient to remove any disease in any coajtry or cli- mate which said disease visited, if it were known. From that tbe I have made it my chief study to search and find out the medical virtifis of the vegetable kingdom, with which our happy country is so bountiully sun- plied. My researches, have been successfully crowned, in a greattneasure by seeing the salutary effl'cts of medicine prepared from the heL, roots and barks of our own country. I have found them to answer evly pur. pose as sudorifics, stimulent tonic, emetic, cathartic, astringent, putative anthelmintic, diaphoretic, blistering, cordial, healing, &c. &c. &cl Saft and efficacious remedies for all diseases, may be relied upon with thdhigh est confidence, in all cases of disease, and all situations of lile, frcL the great apothecary store, (Nature's garden) if judiciously administer^. In my practice, which has been considerable, 1 scarcely or never vl'sat a loss for a remedy where a cure was possible, by applying to the bo cal system, without leaving bad eflects behind it, in the human syster the mineral medicine often does. And I am of opinion that if the study of physicians were more arrested by the botanical practice, that the use of mineral medicine, might entirely, or in a great measure, be dispensed with, as we are so bountifully supplied with a substitute for every one.
