About this work
Description
This documentary follows the residents of Gretton Home who all have Prada-Willi Syndrome, a genetic condition which leaves them with no control over their appetites. Left to their own devices they would eat themselves to death. Two hundred people in the UK have the syndrome and 58 of them live in Gretton Homes. The programme focuses on Joe Blackburn who at 21-years-old weighs 30 stone and Tamara who has lost 15 stone since entering the home. Some of the house managers describe what happens at the Homes and we follow Joe and Tamara's progress. One of the most difficult aspects of the syndrome for staff to manage is their immature social development which leads to tantrums and continually on/off love affairs.
