About this work

Description

The riot was caused by the non-appearance of the singer Catalani at a performance of Enrico IV, which in turn was due to a debt owed to her by the manager of the theatre, William Taylor, who was insolvent. The scene shown in the print is the ballet Cupid and Psyche by Didelot, who is shown flying in the upper register
