    Dewdney s Improved Protector for the Chest, Throat, from Cold. caused by the movements of the patient, will generate and maintain a gentle heat, which will be communicated to the part of the body covered by the protector, and a beneficial effect will soon be perceived by the patient. When it is found no longer necessary to wear the protector, its use may be discon¬ tinued gradually by removing at stated periods, say, one layer of silk from the 5 protector, and thus reducing its bulk until its action is inappreciable. SPECIFICATION in pursuance of the conditions of the Letters Patent, filed by the said George Dewdney in the Great Seal Patent Office on the 14th March 1856. TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, I, George 10 Dewdney, of Fenchurch Street, in the City of London, Jeweller, send greeting. WHEREAS Her most Excellent Majesty Queen Victoria, by Her Letters Patent, bearing date the Fourteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty-five, in the nineteenth year of Her 15 reign, did, for Herself, Her heirs and successors, give and grant unto me, the said George Dewdney, Her special license that I, the said George Dewdney, my executors, administrators, and assigns, or such others as I, the said George Dewdney, my executors, administrators, and assigns, should at any time agree with, and no others, from time to time and at all times thereafter during 20 the term therein expressed, should and lawfully might make, use, exercise, and vend, within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Channel Islands, and Isle of Man, an Invention for “ An Improved Manu¬ facture of Protector, applicable to the Chest, Throat, and other Parts of the Body requiring Protection from the Cold,” upon the condition (amongst 25 others) that I, the said George Dewdney, by an instrument in writing under my hand and seal, should particularly describe and ascertain the nature of the said Invention, and in what manner the same was to be performed, and cause the same to be filed in the Great Seal Patent Office within six calendar months next and immediately after the date of the said Letters Patent. 80 NOW KNOW YE, that I, the said George Dewdney, do hereby declare the nature of my said Invention, and in what manner the same is to be per¬ formed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement, reference being had to the Drawing hereunto annexed, and to the letters and figures marked thereon (that is to say):— 35
