    jection, on the part of those who prohibit their use in enteritis, &c. ? These observations, the Translator has ventur- ed to offer as a sort of general solution of the doubts which, owing to the contradictory nature of the reports of different observers, must em- barrass the young reader. For a detailed and satisfactory elucidation of those difficulties, no ordinary extent of reading, observation, and lei- sure would be sufficient;—that must be left for those who enjoy the necessary means. The Translator, before concluding, cannot re- fuse himself the pleasure of declaring his grate- ful sense of the accommodating spirit and gentle- manly liberality of Dr. A. Duncan, junior. Pro- fessor of Materia Medica, &c. and of Dr. E. Milligan, Lecturer on Physiology and Therapeu- tics, &c. Edinburgh. Unknown to these accom- plished physicians, unless as a student; connect- ed with them only in the common relation of pupil, he gladly avails himself of this earliest op- portunity of expressing his thankful acknowledg- ments of recent and former civility and kindness.
