First published in an English edition, Letters and sketches, with a narrative of a year's residence among the Indian tribes of the Rocky mountains, Philadelphia, 1843. The letters were arranged for publication in French by A. van Iseghem, Malines, 1844. The present edition includes the chapter "Une année de séjour chez les tribus indiennes" (p. [304]-379) which is omitted from several of the editions following that of Malines, 1844.
