Biographical note

Dr Frank J. W. Lewis was a cytogeneticist and haematologist in Bristol. Dr Lewis worked at Ham Green Hospital from the late 1930s until c.1950. In 1948, after the formation of the NHS, he became Reader in Pathology at Bristol University in the Department of Preventative Medicine based at Canynge Hall. He retained this position, overseeing classes and examinations in Pathology after moving to Southmead Hospital where he was Senior Pathologist. Between 1950s and 1960s he worked at the Pathology Department as Consultant Haematologist at Southmead Hospital Bristol, and from the late 1960s until c.1978 he worked as Director of the South-West Regional Cytogenetics Centre based at Southmead. His contemporaries include Professor Arthur Eyre-Brook and Dr Beryl Corner.
