About this work

Description

Black and white photograph of the face and hands of a woman, aged 47, who was suffering from well-marked myxoedema, taken seven weeks after treatment. She underwent treatment by hypodermic injections of thyroid juice. These were administered twice a week, 13 injections of 20 or 25 minims of the juice, prepared by Martin and Brady were given. Photograph taken by Dudley Willis Collings, surgeon, whilst a student at St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School.
