About this work

Description

Pratica medicinale [in an abbreviated version]. Alexis Pedemontanus. Segreti [Extracts]. Transcribed by Rainerio Antonio Bertini of Florence. Lettered on the spine 'Practica medicinale del P. Fra Leone Cappuccini'. The first leaf contains an emblazoned coat of arms in water-colour, and below the inscription 'Ad usum Raineri de Bertinis Civis Florentini et suorum amicorum'. A similar inscription appears on fol. 64 where the name is given as 'Raineri Antonii de Bertinis': above this 'Questo [finito] di 2 Febbraio 1659 In Pisa'. The first part of this work is an abbreviated version of Leone's 'Pratica medicinale', of which there is a full transcript by Francesco de Peretola in MS.3235. Following the 9 leaves of 'Segreti' from Alexis Pedemontanus, are two charms for stopping bleeding and for Spleen: a note states 'Questi due Segreti si sono hauuti dal Sig. Giuseppe Tripalli Cittadino Pisano. Anno 1661'. Below this, another hand (of an old man?) has written 'Questi son segreti del Diauolo, che da un Cristiano non si deuono praticare'. The extracts from Alexis Pedemontanus are stated (fol. 65v) to be from the Rome edition of 1559. Produced in Pisa.
