About this work

Description

In 1978 William Paton went to court to try and stop his wife Joan (although the couple had separated) from having an abortion. He was aided by the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) who paid his legal fees, and the case hit all the national newspapers. However the judge ruled in Joan Paton's favour, and she was able to have an abortion.

This file mainly consists of press cuttings discussing the case.
