He procured it by ex- posing binoxide of nitrogen to the action of iron, which deprived it of a portion of its oxygen, and reduced it to a state of protoxide of nitrogen. Yery little was known, however, of its action and effects until Sir Humphry Davy, by a series of careful experiments, demonstrated its character.
