About this work

Description

Depiction of the subject of the song "La vivandière" by Pierre-Jean de Béranger (1817), with quotation of the sixth of the nine verses. The vivandière was a woman camp-follower who travelled wih an army supplying it with food and drink. In the song, a woman called Cantin narrates her expolits with the French army in the Napoleonic wars, in the Alps, Vienna, Rome, etc.. "Pantin" was a slang word for Paris
