Registrar-General’s Estimate of resident population - mid.1937* 11,650. Number of inhabited houses (end of 1937) according to Rate Books 1* 3,435- Rateable Value £38,907. Sum represented by a penny rate £149.11. Id Agriculture is the chief industry of the area and there are factories at Alcester, Samboufne and Studley where the manufacture of Furniture, needles, Novelties, wire-drawing and Spring-making is carried out. The extent of unemployment is estimated to be 5% of the population. -1-
