    soothing results (as he has seen publicly stated) continue to be too manifest amongst the inmates by those ministrations, and that he has no hesitation in recording it as his delibe¬ rate opinion, formed from actual experience, that the pro¬ fessional attendance of Clergymen, except on special occa¬ sions and in individual cases, is anything but tranquillizing to the inmates, or calculated to promote their recovery. Whilst on this subject, it is necessary to state that, in the performance of Divine Worship on Sundays, it would be most desirable that the respective Clergymen, who are permitted by the Board to attend for that purpose, should visit the Institution during the forenoon, in order to avoid the continuance of the excitement during the entire day, as at present is the case, owing to the celebration of one of the three Services that statedly occur being in the afternoon. Board of Governors held in the Asylum, on Monday, August 1st, 1853. PRESENT 1 John Sinclaire, John S. Crawford, Esq., J.P., C. B. Grimshaw, Esq., John Clarke, Esq., J.P., Right Rev. Bishop Denvir, Esq., in the Chair; Doctor Nugent, Government Inspector of Hospitals for the Insane, William Dunville, Esq. The Two Physicians also present. Laid on the table a copy of “ The Sixth General Report of the Inspectors of Lunatic Asylums on the District Cri¬ minal and Private Lunatic Asylums in Ireland, as presented to both Houses of Parliament, by command of her Majesty;” the same being for the two years ended 31st March, 1853, and thereupon it was Resolved—“ That, inasmuch as the Inspectors have not added to their Report on District Lunatic Asylums the en¬ tire of the proceedings of the Board, and the correspondence with Government on the Chaplaincy question, and of the Inspectors, as submitted to the Lord Lieutenant, that his Excellency be respectfully requested to have all the Docu¬ ments published in a Parliamentary form.”
