    25 nuisances were dealt with during the year consisting chiefly of defective sanitary fittings, drains and water pipes• Numerous complaints were received and dea.lt with in connection with the storage and collection of hones. Fortunately the storage was only of.short duration and verbal intimation was sufficient to have the nuisance removed. TURRIFF : No official intimation in terms of Sections 16 - 19 of the Public Health (Scotland) A.ct, 1897 was issued during the year. Verbal notice sufficed when choked drains were reported. DLEMSING : 3ALLATER : The sweeping of streets and removal of household refuse was carried out by the Burgh vorkmen. During winter months refuse was collected every second day and during summer a laily collection was made. Regular deratisation was carried out at the refuse dump. 3LLCN : Cleansing of the Burgh is carried out with the add of a Karrier Bantam vehicle. There is a thrice weekly collection. In addition to the collection of refuse, the vehicle rhich is a multi-purpose one is adapted to allow the attachment of a mower for the jutting of the Public Perk grass and to work in connection with water supply undertakings, lousing schemes etc. This year a Ferguson tractor was purchased for the purpose of pulling the mower for I jutting the Public Park grass and for use in other works to relieve the Karrier Bantam vehicle. Three complaints were received regarding the condition of the refuse dump and ;he sealing off of the dump face is at present in hand. A portion of the Burgh dump extending to approximately 900 sq. yards is condinued to be let on a year to year basis is a workyard to a Building Contractor. PASERBURGH : For purposes of street cleaning the town is divided into seven districts, each in iharge of one sweeper equipped with orderly barrow. Division of districts is jeriodically reviewed and adjusted to include extensions of housing areas. Refuse collection service is provided to all districts on every alternate day, tv/o 'efuse collection vehicles being engaged and all work being carried out by direct labour. 1-ully clearing is done by hand to horse drawn tumbler cart. Disposal of refuse is by controlled tipping at Lochpots situated beyond the outskirts ')f' the town. During the year approximately 4 acres were released for cultivation and a ’urther area taken over for tipping. Waste paper salvage has continued to find a poor market and the price offered for ■aled mixed waste does not cover the cost of handling the material. The quantity disposed >f during 1953 amounted to 43 tons 16 cuts., valued at £173 b/~» FUNTLY : The cleansing service was well maintained during the year with the collection of lomestic refuse on alternate days, and the collection of shop salvage being undertaken >ne day per week, which always resulted in a. heavy yield. The collection of garden 'efuse during the summer months was well patronised, especially in the spring, when the gardening enthusiasts were commencing work for the season. All the refuse was disposed of a.t the old quarry situated just outside the 3urgh boundary at Corvichen. A system of controlled tipping was carried out at the dump under constant supervision, while Aberdeen County Council Rat Disposal Squad was employed at regular intervals to control the rat infestation and no complaint was received regarding ;he refuse dump during the year. A new Karrier Bantam Cleansing Wagon wa.s purchased and was delivered in the Autumn.
