    Four cow carcases and three forequarters of beef were con¬ demned for Tuberculosis; also seven complete offals were condemned. The slaughter-houses, bakehouses, etc., were duly inspected by the Sanitary Inspector. Section F—Prevalence of, and control over, Infectious and other Diseases. The incidence of notifiable infectious diseases during the year, with the exception of Measles, was low. There were 7 cases of Diphtheria and 8 of Scarlet Fever, all but one of which were treated in Hospital. In January, February and March, there was a mild epidemic of Influenza, but there were no cases of Broncho-pneumonia following. 5 cases of Pneumonia were, however, notified during the last quarter of the year. There was a considerable epidemic of Measles during Sep¬ tember and October. 34 cases were notified, although this number probably did not represent the true incidence. Notifica¬ tion from the schools of known and probable cases of Measles and the prevalence of the disease before notification was made compulsory, indicate that a considerably larger number of children suffered from the disease. From the records of notified cases, it is apparent that the largest number of children affected were between the ages of 5 and 10 years of age. Classes at schools were swabbed in two instances, resulting in the finding of one Diphtheria carrier, who was isolated in Hospital. One case of Scarlet Fever and one of Diphtheria occurred amongst evacuees to the New Mills area. Artificial Immunisation against Diptheria. Only five children have been immunised during the year. It is to be regretted that though this service is provided by the Council free to all children under five years of age, more children have not been immunised against Diphtheria. Consideration is being given to the provision of Measles serum for the area.
