About this work

Description

Leon Michel Gambetta (1838-1882), French Republican statesman and prime minister. After the surrender of Napoleon III he helped to proclaim the Republic in 1870, became minister of the interior in the Goverment of National Defence and made a spectacular escape from the siege of Paris in a ballon, and for five months was dictator of France
