About this work

Description

Wife of Antoine-Marie Chamans, Comte de La Valette and niece of Joséphine Bonaparte. In 1815, after her husband was arrested and condemned to death for his political activities, she rescued him on the eve of his execution by changing clothes with him in prison and thus allowing him to escape. He returned to her from exile in 1822, but by then she had lost her mind
