About this work

Also known as

Twenty five genomes for twenty five years

Description

"In 2018 the Sanger Institute is 25 years old. As is conventional we are having parties, some racous and some more sedate. However, we wanted to mark our 25th birthday in a manner more distinctive and particular to us. To do this we decided to sequence the genomes of 25 species of animals and plants from the British Isles. Sanger people and others, including neighbours and children from UK schools and beyond, chose species that are flourishing, floundering, dangerous, cryptic and iconic. Species with poetic and musical English and Latin names that reflect the way we cherish the natural world around us. Their DNA sequences have now been etched in digital stone for posterity, entwined with an imaginary watermark reading "Sanger's 25th birthday bash". [...] This book of drawings and stories and genomes celebrates the Sanger Institute's 25th birthday."--[Page 2].
